Phoenix Bonsai Society
Cultivating Art, Patience, and Community in the Valley of the Sun
Welcome to the Phoenix Bonsai Society, a community of bonsai enthusiasts in Phoenix, Arizona, dedicated to the ancient living art of bonsai. Whether you are brand new to bonsai or have years of experience shaping miniature trees, our society offers a place to learn, grow, and connect with others who share your passion.
Our roots in the desert
Phoenix Bonsai Society was founded in the autumn of 1962, making it one of the earliest bonsai societies formed outside of Asia and one of the oldest in the U.S. From the beginning, the club focused on adapting traditional bonsai techniques to the unique challenges of heat, sun, and low humidity in the Valley of the Sun.
Guided by pioneering teachers such as Leroy Fujii and other early members, the club developed practical methods for selecting, styling, and caring for trees that can thrive in a desert city like Phoenix. Over the decades, those methods have been refined and shared with hundreds of local enthusiasts through classes, workshops, and shows.
