PREVIOUS MEETINGS AUGUST 9, 2008 Back at the Senior Center, a dozen of us discussed the upcoming show and worked on a few trees. JULY 12, 2008 At Pete Apostolas' in Colorado Springs, fourteen members were given a lecture/ demonstration on making a root-in-rock planting. JUNE 7, 2008 * Non-standard Date * At Claudia & Jim Eley's in Green Mountain Falls, a dozen members socialized, collected, and lunched. MAY 17, 2008 * Non-standard Date * At Cliff Broyle's in Fountain. APRIL 12, 2008 Long-time Colorado master Harold Sasaki from Denver conducted an excellent workshop/critique of trees for 22 of us. MARCH 7 - MARCH 9, 2008 Seminar, demonstration, and assistance at Spencer's Lawn & Garden Centers Success Show, 4720 Center Valley Drive, off of U.S. 85-87 in north Fountain, north of the Wal-Mart and right next to the Goodwill store. Lecture/demo by Claudia at 10:30 am on Sunday. FEBRUARY 9, 2008 Types of pots and their history were discussed, and rules/guidelines for matching a container to a tree were gone over. More info about our March 2008 participation at Spencer's Lawn & Garden Centers Success Show in Fountain. Permits and digs in the forest in May were touched upon. JANUARY 12, 2008 Indoor Bonsai were discussed, as well as more info about our March 2008 participation at Spencer's Lawn & Garden Centers Success Show in Fountain. DECEMBER 10, 2007 Work on our 2008 schedule, motion made and passed to keep current officers for one more year, and a discussion about our March 2008 participation at Spencer's Lawn & Garden Centers event in Fountain. NOVEMBER 12, 2007 Work on our 2008 schedule and a regular meeting. (Harold Sasaki Workshop was postponed and re-scheduled.) OCTOBER 13, 2007 Review of our annual September show; 2008 meeting schedule draft. SEPTEMBER 8, 2007 Further preparation for our Fall Show at the Senior Center. AUGUST 13, 2007 Preparation for our Fall Show. (Back at the Senior Center.) JULY 14, 2007 Lecture/Demonstration: Bonsai Over-Rock Styles, at Pete Apostolas' house in Colorado Springs. JUNE 9, 2007 Collecting trees at Claudia and Jim Eley's home in Green Mountain Falls. Again, this gracious couple supplied lunch. MAY 12, 2007 Hands-on Bonsai Workshop, at Cliff Broyles' house in Fountain. APRIL 14, 2007 Lecture/demonstration: Pruning your Bonsai. (Back at the Senior Center.) MARCH 10, 2007 The Complete Bonsai Workshop, at Phelan Gardens, 4955 Austin Bluffs Parkway, phone 574-8058. Two dozen participants were there, about one-third being non-members. FEBRUARY 10, 2007 Lecture/demonstration: Repotting your Bonsai. JANUARY 13, 2007 Lecture/demonstration: Shaping Bonsai by Wiring. Our new member yearbook was distributed to all paid members. DECEMBER 9, 2006 Our schedule for next year was discussed and our new member yearbook was previewed. NOVEMBER 11, 2006 Because the Senior Center was closed this weekend, our meeting was cancelled at the last minute. OCTOBER 14, 2006 Review of last month's show and ideas for next year's display. We had sweatshirts for sale with the club logo on them. We discussed winter preparation of trees and worked on several bonsai. SEPTEMBER 9, 2006 Tree prep for the upcoming show. AUGUST 12, 2006 Discussion about the upcoming show and work on some trees. JULY 8, 2006 We had an auction of a dozen pots which were donated to the club by the family of a woman who is now in hospice. These included three pots she made in 1978. A couple of members also brought in bougainvillea trees which needed and received nice summer haircuts. Bill Fox related some additional general summer care instructions for our trees. JUNE 10, 2006 At Claudia and Jim Eley's home in Green Mountain Falls for meeting, collecting and lunch. Claudia graciously furnished lunch. Also, the Denver Bonsai Society's annual show at the Botanical Gardens was the following weekend, June 17 and 18. MAY 13, 2006 At Cliff Broyle's home in Fountain. Bill Fox and Robert Baran helped other members prune and pot a Japanese red maple and tropical cherry. Also, advise was given on the care and shaping of a few junipers, dwarf jade, and ficus. APRIL 8, 2006 A repotting seminar including information on root pruning. Several members each brought in a tree and, if necessary, got assistance in repotting it. Repotting soil/grit was available at a very reasonable price. Details were given on how and where to get permits for upcoming collecting trips to the Pike National Forest. MARCH 11, 2006 Long-time member Ross Huddleson put a collected Ponderosa pine in a large cascade pot. The group then helped a couple of members shape the trees they had brought in. FEBRUARY 11, 2006 Hands-On Workshop with pre-selected but still rough specimens of San José Junipers or Dwarf Alberta Spruce. Styling and wiring only. Good turn-out. Also, a recap of Craig Coussins' Denver club workshop: extending the aesthetic triangle of a tree's foliage to include the tray, and wiring deciduous bonsai with a bundle of thin wires (starting at the base of the tree and moving up to the smaller branches). JANUARY 14, 2006 Last minute cancellation. DECEMBER 10, 2005 General discussion, then went to Holiday Luncheon at Tako Japanese Restaurant, 1840 Dominion Way.
